Huge congratulations to John Gorman who received a ‘Hospice Heroes’ Award from Miriam O’ Callaghan yesterday, 15th April 2026 in St. Francis Hospice Blanchardstown. John has been a wonderful volunteer over the years for Saint Christopher’s Hospice Cavan and the Hospice are delighted to see John getting the recognition which he deserves. Well done John

St. Christopher’s Hospice was established nearly 40 years ago to provide and maintain residential nursing and convalescent beds and day care for the end of life care of persons (without regard to race, creed or means) who are suffering from any late stage chronic or terminal illness in Cavan and Monaghan.
More recently we have made major progress in agreeing with the Department of Health and the HSE for the provision of a state of the art specialist palliative care inpatient hospice. We recently submitted an application for planning permission to refurbish the existing hospice building including the provision of 16 new hospice bedrooms and a daycare facility.
We hope to go to construction tender in mid 2025 and to commence building by the end of 2025 with a view to opening the new facility to cover the communities of Cavan and Monaghan in late 2027. We will also be conducting a major fundraising drive to meet the shortfall in funds to complete the project.
